In the above image, you can see a device displaying Windows 8 home screen and many colorful keyboards. That Windows 8 display is the Surface Tablet and the colorful keyboards is another awesome accessory for the Surface. We’ll get to it in a moment. First, lets revisit what Apple iPad offers.
Apple iPad
The New iPad has a 9.7-inch display with retina quality (2048 x 1536 pixels; 264 ppi). Undoubtedly, the best display in the market (yet). A custom dual-core A5X chip powers the device with quad-core GPU. Of course it runs on iOS,
v6 of which is scheduled to launch this fall. If you want to use the camera for image capture and video recording, it offers 5 megapixel iSight camera with autofocus and HD recording (1080p). There is also a front-facing camera for FaceTime (video calling). It’s a on-the-go device, so you need proper battery backup most of the time. The New iPad offers 42.5 watt-hour battery. The battery lets you surf the web on WiFi, watch videos, or listen music for up to 10 hours. On cellular network, the battery backup is 9 hours of web surfing. Apart from the features mentioned you will get, built-in speaker and microphone
The closest competitor of Apple, Galaxy Tab is preferred by some Android fans. Lets take a quick look at its features and specifications, then we’ll move to Surface. It offers a massive 10.1-inch display with 4-way rotation and 1280 x 800 pixel resolution (149 ppi). Like I said, it runs on Android OS – powered by 1 GHz dual-core NVIDIA processor. To handle the applications and tasks, a RAM of 1 GB is included.
Again, battery is important. It has a 7000 mAh battery which offers 9 hours of video and 72 hours of music playback. It doesn’t have a good camera, it’s just 3MP with LED flash and HD (720p) video recording. The front-facing camera has 2 megapixel sensor. However, you can watch video in HD (1080p) resolution.
Microsoft Surface Tablet
Finally, Microsoft Surface is here for competition. Let’s quickly review the specs, and check the tabular comparison at the end to get a clear picture. The things you need to know about this tablet is basically just two: one, the revolutionary keyboard-cover and second, the kickstand. The kickstand is a built-in stand to hold it upright, and go hands free. The amazing thing about it is that, it’s just 0.7mm thin – thinner than a credit card. The keyboard-cover is a revolutionary accessory. It protects the device as a cover, and provides a fully functional keyboard… And it’s just 3mm thin! Yes, I’m serious. Oh, I forgot to mention one thing, there is a trackpad too. So, a keyboard, plus trackpad, plus cover – everything in only 3mm.
Apart from these two revolutionary features, it gives a 10.6-inch display ClearType HD display technology. It runs on the refreshing and all new Windows 8 RT platform. It weighs around 676 grams and 9.3mm thin. Other specs include a 31.5 watt-hour battery, Micro SD memory card slot, stereo speakers, dual mic and two cameras. The rear camera is placed strategically at 22 degree angle, so that you can capture conferences and events hands-free. There will also be another model, which will be a little more thick than this one. It will be 13.5mm thin, but will also give better performance. That’s it! The table summarizes everything.
