Nagpur Test, Day 5: As it happened...

It's England's first series victory in India after 28 years, while India lost a Test series at home after a gap of eight years.
India vs England 2012, Nagpur Test, Day 5: As it happened...ENGLAND (2nd innings): Over: 154 II Score: 352/4 (1st innings) (Bell 116*, Root: 20*)

And the inevitable has happened. The Nagpur Test has ended in a draw. The England dressing room has broken into wild celebrations. They have won a Test series India after a long gap of 27 years! They thoroughly deserved this win. Each of their members has contributed to this win. Ian Bell was under some pressure and he came to his own in the final Test as he slammed a ton in the second innings.

They were by trailing the series 0-1 but came back strongly with Monty Panesar spinning them out in Mumbai and later James Anderson dazzled them with his swing leaving Indian batsman clueless. Alastair Cook, who made his Test debut in India, lead from the front in his first full series as captain and scored heavily, and finished as the leading run getter. Deservedly, he took the man of the series trophy as well.

ENGLAND (2nd innings): Over: 151 II Score: 336/4 (1st innings) (Bell 102*, Root: 18*)

Ian Bell has completed his 17th Test century. A sense of relief apparent on his face as he raises his bat to acknowledge the crowd and his teammates. James Anderson is jumping with joy in the dressing room! He has hit 13 boundaries and a six so far. The current partnership is now worth 34. Oh! Gautam Gambhir has replaced Jadeja.

TEA! Just one wicket for India in Jonathan Trott. Joe Root is the new batsman in and he got off the mark of his first delivery. He later sent the ball into the stands over midwicket region for a biggie off R Ashwin, probably dropping a hint or two for the team management to consider him for the upcoming T20I on Thursday. Another session that has gone England’s way. They have dictated the terms and surely the Nagpur Test will be a draw. England will for the first time in 27 years claim a Test series win in India.

ENGLAND (2nd innings): Over: 134.1 II Score: 302/4 (1st innings) (Bell 86*, Root: 0*)

Seems like Jonathan Trott has been batting for like millions of years! His stay on the crease has finally come to an end as he was caught by Virat Kohli at leg slip. A bad delivery it was and Trott played it to leg into the hands of Kohli. Well played Trott! He scored 143 (310, 4X18). In walks Joe Root.

That stand lasted for 78.2 overs and 208 runs. Earlier, Bell lofted Jadeja for a biggie over long off to bring up the 200-run partnership that was later broken by Ashwin.

Virender Sehwag drops a catch at slips and is still smiling! Sure the match is of academic interest only but this effort? Piyush Chawla floats one in the air and Bell cuts. Sehwag, who probably got bored of the monotony of this match, was not ready for it. Trott collects yet another boundary off Jadeja in the next over towards midwicket region. The partnership is now 193.

Time for drinks after Piyush Chawla bowls his fifth maiden of the innings. The previous over from Ojha was a maiden as well. Trott did hit Chawla for a boundary before through backward point region. Quite a long time after we have seen a match as dull as this is turning out to be. But England aren’t complaining. They are waiting for the moment when the two teams exchange greetings, shake hands and then break into wild celebrations having accomplished the mission of defeating India on their turf.

ENGLAND (2nd innings): Over: 117 II Score: 261/3 (1st innings) (Trott: 117*, Bell 71*)

Piyush Chawla began the proceedings of the second session and gifted Trott a juicy full toss that the centurion accepted with both hands sending it for a boundary to midwicket region. Bell later hit Chalwa for back-to-back boundaries to move to 71. The partnership has also crossed the 150-run mark.

ENGLAND (LUNCH) (2nd innings): Over: 110 II Score: 240/3 (1st innings) (Trott: 106*, Bell 61*)

And England have virtually sealed the Test series in their favour as their overnight pair of Trott and Bell has returned undefeated for lunch. Both have been solid and have faced no trouble from the Indian bowlers. Trott completed a deserved century, his first against India while Bell left behind a series of bad innings on the current tour to slam his first fifty of the series. Nothing much happening for the bowler, no purchase from the pitch as the lead has been extended to 244 runs.

ENGLAND (2nd innings): Over: 105 II Score: 233/3 (1st innings) (Trott: 103*, Bell 57*)

Jonathan Trott has completed his century with a boundary towards midwicket region of Piyush Chawla. This is his first century against India and an important one that has ensured his team successfully overcame the early blows they suffered after coming in to bat for the second time in the Test. Three boundaries came in that over including a single. Meanwhile, Ian Bell has completed his fifty as well.

How long is England team planning to bat? Will they bat for the entire duration of the day or will they let their bowlers have a final go at the Indian batsman to take home some more wickets? Either way, things aren’t looking rosy for the hosts as with each passing over, their chance to claim the final Test and thus levelling the series is getting fainter.

ENGLAND (2nd innings): Over: 95 II Score: 201/3 (1st innings) (Trott: 84*, Bell 44*)

The lead has gone past 200-run mark with the Indian bowlers still in hunt for the elusive wicket. Trott is 16 runs shy of his century while Bell six runs away from his first fifty of the Indian tour. Jadeja has been removed from the attack as Ashwin is introduced for the first time in the final day’s play.

After playing two consecutive maidens, England scored two boundaries in the next two overs of Ojha and Jadeja. The next is, of course, was a maiden. The duo has looked quite calm and composed, unwilling to take any risk but at the same time not shying away from playing the shots when there was an opportunity.

ENGLAND (2nd innings): Over: 85 II Score: 181/3 (1st innings) (Trott: 75*, Bell 33*)

Three boundaries have been scored in the first six overs of the morning. Two coming from the bat of Ian Bell while the other from Jonathan Trott. Ravindra Jadeja began the proceedings of the final day with a single off the first over. Sharma managed to induce an edge off Bell but the ball fell short of Kohli at slip.

ENGLAND (2nd innings): Over: 79 II Score: 161/3 (1st innings) (Trott: 66*, Bell 24*)

Jonathan Trott and Ian Bell have added 67 runs for the fourth wicket after Kevin Pietersen fell early on the penultimate day of the Nagpur test. The pair returned undefeated after India made an early declaration (they were still trailing by four runs). In the 79 overs bowled in their innings, the visitors scored 161 runs at 2.03 rpo. The Indian team will be desperate for wickets today while England will be satisfied by frustrating the bowlers as a draw will ensure that they take the series 2-1.
